Charley says SONG! Eva Pauwels – Do Ya Think I’m Sexy

August 27, 2010

Oh, Eva Pauwels, you never cease to surprise…

A quick recap… Years ago Eva Pauwels was the young girl who married actor and comedian Jacques Vermeire. After their divorce she managed to remain a tabloid favourite.

Some highlights: doing Playboy, becoming a lesbian, shaving her hair off, being on the ‘The Simple Life 2: Road Trip’ inspired reality show ‘Ciao Bella’ (Hello, people in charge of iWatch, I would pay good money to watch that on demand!), getting married to a woman, divorcing said woman, check into a psychiatric clinic, escaping said psychiatric clinic, not being lesbian anymore (or at least being bisexual), getting married to a man…

Now, her latest headline is reminding people that back in 2002 she dated Flemish A-list actor Kevin Janssens. It would appear that at the time they even did some interviews together, but no one remembered because Kevin wasn’t famous yet back then.

Having had a number of high profile acting gigs, coming second in ‘Dancing With The Stars’ and being in the upcoming romantic comedy ‘Zot Van A’ (a remake of the wonderful Dutch movie ‘Alles Is Liefde’), Kevin Janssens is quite the catch to boast about these days.

In honour of Eva bedding one of Flanders’ most wanted men, here’s her first and only single ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy‘.

Yes, that fitted in that list there somewhere as well.

Charley says ARTIST! Edyta Herbuś

June 4, 2010

Remember the main girl from Nelson’s ‘She’s Gone‘ video, which I posted the other day?

Well, turns out she’s not just Random Dancer #537. Nelson got a proper dance superstar!

Edyta Herbuś is a Polish dancer who competed twice in Taniec Z Gwiazdami, the local version of Dancing With The Stars. She has also done some acting, but it’s her participation in the 2008 Eurovision Dance Contest that’ll be remembered most in the years to come.

Together with her Taniec Z Gwiazdami partner, actor Marcin Mroczek, she did what no Polish act had ever managed to do before. She won Eurovision.

Now I know the ill-fated Eurovision Dance Contest isn’t up there with proper Eurovision or even Junior Eurovision, but still.

She won Eurovision!

Charley says ARTIST! Louis Talpe

May 29, 2010

Nicole Scherzinger may reign supreme on the American dancefloor, but here in Flanders it’s actor Louis Talpe who got to take the Dancing With The Stars trophy home.

We first met Louis in 2006 as police officer Toby on tv series Mega Mindy. The show is a bit like a reverse gender Superman. Police officer Mieke turns into superhero Mega Mindy and Toby doesn’t realise that the hero he’s falling for is actually his colleague in disguise. The series proved to be a big hit with the kids and soon there were movies, stage shows, merchandise and albums sung by lead actress Free Souffriau.

With Louis’ star on the rise, he managed to secure a role in restaurant drama ‘Goesting’ and a place as one of the finalists on Dancing With The Stars 2010.

Now what I wanted to tell you about today is that a year before his freestyle would win him the dancing show, Louis had already competed in another celebrity reality show. With Free Souffriau being Soapstar Superstar’s 2008 winner and officer Toby having already featured on one Mega Mindy song, Louis was asked to show off his singing skills.

Louis turned out not to be the greatest singer, but he managed to stay in the competition for three weeks. We got to hear him sing ‘Jessie‘, ‘Save Tonight‘, ‘New York, New York‘, ‘Everybody Needs Somebody To Love‘ and  ‘She Moves In Her Own Way‘, but it’s his performance of Liquido’s ‘Narcotic‘ that I’m going to put up in celebration of his Dancing With The Stars victory!

Charley says TV! Looking For Pearl

May 22, 2010

Colour me super excited.

Music station JIM has announced that a follow-up for talent show ‘Let’s Go Lasgo’ will be airing this summer!

In 2008 Lasgo producer Peter Luts set out to find a new singer for the early 00’s hit dance project. Two years, three top five hits, one top ten album and a ‘Dancing With The Stars‘ participation later, ‘Let’s Go Lasgo’ winner Jelle Van Dael is one of the hottest celebrities out there and Lasgo is bigger than ever.

In ‘Looking For Pearl’ Peter will be putting together an entirely new act, consisting of one singer and two dancers.

As far as I understand the group will be named Pearl, after main sponsor Tampax’ product line. With also The Saturdays promoting them in the UK, these must be the world’s most music friendly tampons ever.

Except for the vocals, Pearl’s first single is completely ready and good to go. It looks like it might be a proper club banger of ‘Gone‘ proportions. Even with only the instrumental finished the track got signed all over Europe and the US.

Girls between 17 and 24 can apply as of Monday the 24th on Participants must be free from June 28th till July 12th for the show which will be hosted by popstar and tv host Ellektra.

I can’t wait!

Charley says VIDEO! Peter Luts ft. Lien Vervoort – The Rain

April 30, 2010

I love stuff like this. Radio station Q-Music has discovered that the singer on Peter Luts’ ‘The Rain‘ is Lien Vervoort. The name may not immediately ring a bell, but this lady has been on our radar before.

She first stepped into the spotlight as a contestant on the ill-fated talent show ‘Can You Duet‘. She didn’t manage to secure a place in the final, but a couple of months later she was already competing in her next reality show.

‘Let’s Go Lasgo’ saw producer Peter Luts looking for a girl to be the new lead singer of early 00’s hit dance group Lasgo. If I remember correctly Lien walked out of the competition in the end, because she didn’t feel like it was the kind of thing she wanted after all. Current Flemish ‘Dancing With The Stars‘ contestant Jelle Van Dael ended up beating Elke, another ‘Can You Duet’ alum, in the talent search’s final and Lasgo shot back to the top of the charts.

When the time came for Peter to release another solo single on the side he hadn’t forgotten about Lien. She may not be in the video, but Lien’s vocals are an integral of the song’s success. With ‘The Rain‘ entering the top 10 everything has finally fallen into place for everyone. Don’t you love a happy end?
